Abstract
Trauma is an unfortunate reality in the lives of our students and can have far reaching consequences. Teachers play a huge impact in students lives and spend a great deal of time with students. Consequently, they are in a unique position to notice the signs of trauma. This early intervention can create long term benefits, not just in the classroom, but in every aspect of the lives of the students. This paper will look at trauma, what it is, what the consequences of trauma are and what we, as educators, can do to help students through trauma. It will address why this is so crucial and also give information on ways to build resiliency. An example of an action plan for accomplishing this in a school setting is also included.
