Individual Presentation or Panel Title

Antebellum Treasure Hunting and the California Gold Rush

Abstract

For my presentation, I will discuss a small part of my Senior Thesis. The part I will focus on will discuss treasure hunting before the Gold Rush, and the changes that occurred in treasure hunting after gold was found in California. To show this change, I will look at old newspaper articles that contain personal stories and opinions about treasure hunting and gold from before and after the rush. This will help me determine how many people dug for gold before the Gold Rush, and then I will discuss how the Gold Rush caused a large mass of people to go treasure hunting in California, and how the rush impacted Americans. The end result will be that there was an immense change in American views and actions towards treasure hunting after the Gold Rush.
