Individual Presentation or Panel Title

East Coast American Culture

Abstract

Our project focuses on the differences and similarities in regional cultures on the East Coast, mainly northern and southern culture, and how it blends into American culture as a whole. Culture, as defined by The Journal of Psychology in 2001, is a way of life of a group of people—the behaviors, beliefs, values, and symbols that they accept, generally without thinking about them, and that are passed along by communication and imitation from one generation to the next. By preparing questions to ask locals in these regions and by visiting places within the regions, we are experiencing these cultures firsthand. With the information gathered, we will be looking at what is distinctive to each region and what is the same throughout. This will help us with profiling the two regions and ascertaining a basis of what it means to be an American on the East Coast. This information will be presented through a website with interviews, video diaries from trips taken, and survey results.
