Individual Presentation or Panel Title

Cathartidae

Abstract

This is a short experimental film about the psychological battle every human has to face between the light and dark side of themselves. This film focuses on a specific character's internal struggle with an overly violent parasitic inner demon that manifests in her through reading and seeing depictions of king vultures in an ancient book. The subtext of this film deals with animism (the belief that natural phyiscal entities—including animals, plants and even inanimate objects —possess a spiritual essence) and the sometimes disturbing impulses and urges all humans have at their core, as well as how people battle with these instincts/emotions to hold on to what we believe makes us human: choice and reflection and our ability to decipher good from evil and consciously make the decision to go down one path but understanding the other path always exists.
