Description

Under the direction of Dr. Bonnie Bowers

The Bahamas is a nation driven by tourism, and this study explores the relationship between tourism, cultural identity, and patriotism of Bahamians. Specifically, it studies how Bahamians perceive these factors to be influential to their lives as it relates to tourism. We wanted to see how residents specifically felt about the industry that contributed to their livelihoods and perhaps find out if they thought it was detrimental to them. The participants (N=98) completed a survey that consisted of 5-point Likert-scale questions. The data gathered contribute to a pool of tourism research as well as add to the discussion of how tourism may have an impact on residents of these nations, more so than on the tourists that visit them. Ultimately, we hope to foster a sense of harmony between tourists and residents.
