Abstract
This presentation will focus on numerous recent young adult literature screen adaptions, focusing on casting choices of actors that fill teen character roles. It will highlight issues in casting for young adult adaptions, such as race, ethnicity, age, sexuality and gender. This presentation will also focus on the problems that these casting choices can bring to the surface, such as racism and ableism, as well as more general consequences of casting adults to play teenagers, and how this can warp how teens view themselves and their place in the world.
