Abstract
My MFA thesis “Investigations of Adolescence” addresses how adolescent children have beautiful minds worth developing, both for their own sake and the future of our society, using psychoanalytic and sociological critical theories. Moreover, adolescents can think critically when adults give them space to do so. My paper also speaks to the idea that adulthood is not being the pinnacle of solid decision making. Further, I argue that literature with both prose and imagery is an important tool in growing critical thinking skills. My manuscript titled “Lena James and the Mystery on the Movie Set” further expands on these ideas by utilizing a hybrid illustration and text format that requires the reader to interact directly with the text, to think critically, and to problem solve.
