The Dragon Prince

Abstract

This fantasy novel-in-progress, provisionally titled The Dragon Prince (300,000 words), follows the story of Jaji, a young dragon who sets out to prove his merit by undergoing a dragon rite of initiation by claiming a human maiden as a servant. Instead, he is transformed into a human boy and enslaved by the princess he had attempted to catch. After being immersed in human society, Jaji becomes the pivotal piece in the conflict between dragon and humankind, monstrous humans and corrupt dragons, the two royal families, and between princesses and promises. From a young age, I have been fascinated in the fantasy genre, mythical creatures, and telling exciting stories. This creative writing project has given me the venue, academic resources, and drive to complete drafts of this novel. Through the writing and editing processes, and substantial help from my advisers and test readers, I have honed my skills both in the creative art and in the technical rules and styles of writing. This novel signifies approximately three years of plotting, drafting, world-building, character crafting, over a thousand pages of typing, and immeasurable support from my friends, professors, and family. This work will be filed as my English honors thesis.
