Description

The compound Ph2PCH(CH3)PPh2 was synthesized using a published method (see Organometallics 1986, 5, 2220-2228). A 60-MHz H-1 nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectrum was recorded to determine the sample’s purity. A complex pattern, not reported by the authors of the Organometallics paper, was observed at about 1 ppm. The work described here was undertaken to understand this inconsistency. The conclusions we present will be informed by computer modeling as well as high-field and two-dimensional NMR studies.
