Education: Three degrees in Philosophy: A.B. Randolph-Macon Women’s College (Lynchburg, Virginia); M.A. University of South Carolina; Ph.D. University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Family: Husband: Dr. David A. Bell; Children: Caroline, Elizabeth, and Thomas; four grandchildren.

Previous Employment: President of Wesleyan College, Macon, Georgia.

  • Published numerous articles, book chapters, and one book entitled Conflicts of Rights in Health Care: Who Decides?
  • She received several awards, including the Order of the Palmetto, the highest civilian award presented by the governor of South Carolina for service to that state.
  • Husband, David Bell, is President of Macon State College in Georgia.

  • Inauguration on Founder’s Day, February 20, 2003.
  • Ground breaking for Fishburn Library’s transformation into the Richard Wetherill Visual Arts Center.
  • Hollins Alumna, Eleanor Delaney “Siddy” Wilson, Class of 1930, leaves Hollins an estate gift of 5.5 million dollars towards the new visual arts center.
  • Hollins, for the first time, contracts with a vendor to manage Food Services.
  • Hollins ranked #1 in quality of life by The Princeton Review.
