Abstract

Multicultural Affairs Departments are a recent fixture in higher education institutions throughout the nation. These departments were developed and implemented to set a strong precedence against racism and provide support services for students of color. Unfortunately there are still many colleges, particularly in the South, that continue to encourage silent racism by not providing programs and services that support inclusion and diversity among students. This thesis discusses why it is important for all higher education institutions to develop and implement a Multicultural Affairs Department.
