Biographical Data

Personal: b. 1953; known as “Maggie;” grew up in Annapolis, Maryland.

Education: Vassar (B.S. 1975 in Biochemistry); University of Delaware, (Ph.D. 1981 in Chemistry).

Family: Husband: Jim Grube; Children: Howie and Tucker.

Previous Employment: Dean of the faculty at Middlebury College (VT).

After Hollins: President, St. Mary’s College in Maryland.

Events that took place during tenure

  • Inauguration on April 11, 1992.
  • Construction and Renovation: New front entrance and gates, Wyndham Robertson Library planning begun, new roadway (E. Campus Drive moved), Pleasants renovated, infirmary renovated to become the Cromer Bergman Alumnae House.
  • Sesquicentennial is celebrated 1991-1992. Special events were scheduled throughout the year with the grand finale taking place at alumnae reunion; pictorial book, Hollins: Celebrating 150 Years of Achievement, Tradition, and Vision (Bob Llewellyn, photographer), is published.
  • Academic Changes: New master’s programs added: M.A. in Children’s Literature and M.A.T. in Teaching.
  • New Technology: Fishburn Library automates and CD-Rom databases are added; campus network and Hollins web site established.
