Abstract
Picture books can influence children's formation of gender stereotypes, positively or negatively. Thus it is extremely important to consider how various picture books portray gender and to analyze stereotypes that are presented. Past studies on this topic usually focus on behavioral characteristics and not as much on clothing or accessories. The author of this study explores illustrators' use of clothing in anthropomorphic animal characters to signify gender.
